Want to know what KWFinder can do and whether it's the right keyword research tool for you?

Then read on and I'll show you everything you need to know about it.

What is KWFinder?

KWFinder is an online service for keyword research. It is an alternative to the Google Keyword Planner and shows you all the important data and key figures you need to evaluate your keywords and optimise your website for Google searches on its clear and user-friendly interface.

It is a tool from the Slovakian SEO tool provider Mangools, which offers the following services:

Here is a short explanatory video.

KWFinder is a great help if you want to find out the search volume, trends, CPC (cost-per-click), PPC (pay-per-click) and KD (keyword difficulty) of keywords as well as related keywords (related and complementary keywords), keyword variants and relevant questions as well as EV (estimated visits per month).

You will also find information on DA (Domain Authority), PA (Page Authority), the number of backlinks and shares on FB, and the LPS (Link Profile Strength) of the websites ranking in the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages).

This may sound a little overwhelming, but with a little familiarisation it is not. The tool is very clearly structured and more or less self-explanatory.

In our SEO agency, we have been using the tools from Mangools and especially KWFinder for many years and are still very satisfied with them.

KWFinder costs

Until recently, the tool could be used free of charge for 3 queries per day. This was sufficient for a quick search or for small websites. Now, after a 10-day free trial period, KWFinder is subject to a charge.

Here is the cost plan from Mangools:

Prices for monthly payment

mangools Basic mangools Premium mangools Agency
Price per month € 49,90/month € 69,90/month € 129,90/month
Keyword search / 24 h 100 500 1200
Keyword suggestions / search 200 from 700 700 from 700 700 from 700
Competitor keywords / search 25 Unlimited Unlimited

Prices for annual payment

mangools Basic mangools Premium mangools Agency
Price per month € 29,90/month € 39,90/month € 79,90/month
Keyword search / 24 h 100 500 1200
Keyword suggestions / search 200 from 700 700 from 700 700 from 700
Competitor keywords / search 25 Unlimited Unlimited
SERP lookups / 24 h 100 500 1.200
Tracked keywords daily 200 700 1.500
Backlink lines / 24 h 2.000 7.000 15.000
Site lookups / 24 h 20 70 150
Simultaneous logins X 3 10

In my opinion, the prices are moderate and justified when you consider the scope of services and the quality of the results. As an agency that manages many customer websites, or as the operator of several websites with numerous subpages (and therefore keywords), the investment is definitely worthwhile.

Info: If you decide to subscribe, you will of course have access to all 5 Mangools SEO tools, not just KWFinder.

KWFinder alternative free of charge

Tip: If you only need a few keyword searches and the investment in KWFinder is not worth it for you, try Ubersuggest, the (still) free SEO tool from Neil Patel. A very comprehensive online tool that provides you with similar results. Find out more about Ubersuggest here.

Now let's take a look at the functions, metrics and key figures that KWFinder offers you and how you can maximise your benefits.

KWFinder - functions, metrics and key figures for comprehensive SEO and keyword research

Keyword research

In-depth and comprehensive keyword research is essential if you want to be found by interested parties and potential customers in the organic search results of search engines, but also if you want to place Google Ads and optimise them.

To start the search, enter the search term in the search mask, select the respective target country and possibly the language* and click on "Find keywords".

*In many industries and subject areas, there are also foreign-language search terms that are entered as search queries in Google. In order not to exclude these, you should refrain from restricting the search to German and keep the default setting "Any Language".

KWFinder Suchmaske

After a short period of time during which the tool processes your query, you will be shown the results page.

KWFinder Ergebnisse

On the left, you will see the keyword you searched for as well as keyword suggestions with the respective search volume, trends and other key figures, which I will discuss in a moment.

On the right-hand side, the keyword difficulty (displayed graphically and numerically on a scale of 1-100), the search volume over the course of the year or as a trend and the first 10 web pages of the Google search results page (SERP) are displayed, which KWFinder pulls from Google using the in-house tool SERPChecker.

Let's take a look at the areas in detail.

Keyword and keyword suggestions

On the left-hand side, you will find your searched keyword (exact match) and relevant keyword suggestions with measurement data on trends, search volume (Search), CPC (Cost-per-Click), PPC (Pay-per-Click) and KD (Keyword Difficulty).

KWFinder Ergebnisse Keywords und Keyword-Vorschläge

1. The search volume

Querying the search volume of a keyword is the first step of the research. This allows you to find out whether there are enough search queries per month for your keyword and whether the optimisation effort is worthwhile at all.

1.1 Search volume of the searched keyword:

KWFinder Ergebnisse Suchvolumen

The search volume is also displayed again on the right-hand side.

Depending on the industry or niche, you can use the search volume as one of several indicators to determine whether the keyword is relevant and whether it is worth optimising your website for this keyword. Other indicators of whether the effort is worthwhile include the trend over the last 12 months and the keyword difficulty.

If it turns out that the effort is too high, you will find plenty of relevant keyword suggestions for your topic under your keyword.

1.2 Keyword suggestions and their search volume

Keyword-Vorschläge mit Suchvolumen

The keyword tool shows many useful alternatives to the keyword entered:

In addition to the entered search term best compact camera, I am shown digital camera, best digital camera, compact camera comparison and many other suggestions.

Depending on your subscription, 200-700 other keywords or keyword phrases are suggested.

You can also display the so-called "autocomplete" keywords. You can:

  • Include them in your article/website/content to increase relevance
  • Use as an alternative to your keyword if the competition is too strong (see KD, Keyword Difficulty)
  • Use for new article ideas

KWFinder Ergebnisse Autocomplete

The tool gets these from Google. These are the search terms that Google automatically displays when the user starts to enter their search query in the search mask.

Another helpful tool is the query of questions matching the keyword. As there don't seem to be any relevant questions for the search term used so far according to KWFinder, I have queried a different term so that I can show you a screenshot.

KWFinder Ergebnisse Questions

Questions are questions that users ask by voice or via the search mask in order to find answers in Google. If there is a search volume for these questions, you should answer them in your content or use them as article ideas for new content.

A good alternative for finding relevant user questions is the online tool "Answer The Public".

1.3 Querying the search volume and other relevant data for multiple search terms

If you want to query the search volume and relevant data for several keywords at once, do not enter the keywords individually in the search mask, but click on "Import " in the menu at the top. A new window opens in which you can upload a list of 200-700 keywords from a file or enter them manually, depending on the payment plan.

KWFinder Import mehrerer Keywords

I have entered some keywords manually here as an example.

KWFinder manuelle Eingabe mehrerer Keywords

After clicking on the "Process keywords" button, you will receive the results for your search terms.

KWFinder Abfrageergebnis mehrerer Keywords

Meaning of the measurement data and metrics

On the left and right-hand side of the KWFinder you will find metrics (CPC, PPC, DA, PA etc.) that help you to estimate how many visitors you could get for a keyword and how strong the competition is for a keyword.

In the following, I will explain what these metrics mean and how you can best use them for keyword research.

The left half of the KWFinder

On the left-hand side you will find metrics for the keyword.

Trend

kwfinder ergebnisse keyword trend 12 monate

Trend shows how often the keyword has been searched for in the last 12 months (one bar is one month). This allows you to determine whether there are seasonal fluctuations for a keyword.

Search (search volume, search queries per month)

kwfinder ergebnisse suchvolumen

Search shows how often a keyword was searched for on Google on average per month in the last 12 months.

CPC (cost-per-click)

kwfinder ergebnisse cost per click

The CPC indicates how much a click would cost if a Google AdWords advert was placed for this keyword. This is generally not relevant for SEO, but can give you a good indication of whether you can earn money with a keyword or not.

PPC (pay-per-click)

kwfinder ergebnisse pay per click

PPC indicates how strong the competition is for a keyword in Google Ads. It is also only of limited relevance for SEO.

KD (Keyword Difficulty)

kwfinder ergebnisse keyword difficulty

The Keyword Difficulty indicates on a scale from 0 to 100 how difficult or easy it is to rank for the keyword. In other words, the value shows how strong the competition is for a keyword. the value is calculated from the LPS (Link Profile Strength) of the top 10 websites on the first SERP/search engine results page.

This value is only meaningful to a limited extent, as it ignores the important on-page factors and other Google ranking factors, such as user signals, page speed (loading speed) or the domain and page authority of the competitor pages.

These were the metrics on the left-hand side of the KWFinder. Now let's move on to the right-hand side.

The right half of the KWFinder

On the right-hand side you will find the Keyword Difficulty graphically displayed again, the search volume per month and the trend over the last few years as well as a SERP overview with metrics and measurement data on the competition.

kwfinder rechte seite

DA (Domain Authority)

kwfinder anzeige der domain authority

The Domain Authority shows the strength of the link profile of the entire domain on a scale from 0 to 100. The higher the value, the higher the domain is rated in terms of trust and authority.

The calculation is carried out by analysing the backlinks of root domains, the number of backlinks, MozRank, MozTrust, etc.

Domains with a high domain authority have an easier time achieving a good ranking than those with a low DA (e.g. new websites). The graphic above shows that this is possible and is due to the fact that there are numerous other ranking factors in addition to DA. You can find out more about DA on the website of Moz, the developers of Domain Authority.

PA (Page Authority)

kwfinder anzeige der page authority

What the Domain Authority says about the link profile of the entire domain, the Page Authority shows about the link profile of the respective subpage.

The calculation includes the number of backlinks, MozRank, MozTrust and dozens of other factors. The following also applies to PA: Pages with a high Page Authority have an easier time achieving a good ranking than those with a low PA. However, with good content that perfectly covers the search intent, a website that loads quickly and positive user signals, it can also be possible for pages with a low PA to achieve a top ranking. You can find out more about PA on the website of Moz, the developers of Page Authority.

CF (Citation Flow)

kwfinder anzeige des citation flow

The Citation Flow was developed by Majestic. It focuses on the number (quantity) of backlinks and shows how influential a URL is based on how many websites link to it.

TF (Trust Flow)

kwfinder anzeige des trust flow

The Trust Flow was also developed by Majestic and focuses on the quality of backlinks. Pages with links from trustworthy websites generally rank better than pages with backlinks from dodgy, less trustworthy websites.

Links

kwfinder anzeige der backlinks

This shows the number of backlinks that Moz's SEO tool finds for the subpage. If you move the cursor over the number, you will see the number of referring domains, IPs and subnets.

FB (Facebook)

kwfinder anzeige der facebook shares

This parameter shows how often the URL has been shared on Facebook. A high value could be an indication of a good topic or an interesting presentation of the topic. It is worth taking a closer look at this page and adopting the topic or content format as an article idea for your blog.

LPS

kwfinder anzeige link profile strength

The LPS (Link Profile Strength) is an indicator of the link profile strength, i.e. the authority of a website and its subpages, and was developed by Mangools. It is calculated using the link profile of a URL and the associated domain. KWFinder uses data such as the DA and PA from MOZ.

EV (Estimated Visits per Month)

kwfinder anzeige der estimated visits

EV shows how many website visitors can be expected for the respective ranking. This is an estimated value that is calculated using the search volume of the keyword and the average CTR (click-through rate).

How we use KWFinder in our agency

I've already told you that we like to use KWFinder a lot in our SEO agency. In the following screenshot, you can see exactly what data we look at.

kwfinder ergebnisseite

  • Search (search volume per month)
  • KD (Keyword Difficulty)
  • URL (+DA and PA)
  • FB (Shares on Facebook)
  • EV (Estimated Visits per Month)
  • Related keywords, autocomplete, questions

These are the most important metrics that are checked during every keyword research. In many cases, we take a much closer look.

Conclusion on KWFinder

You have now familiarised yourself with KWFinder and learned which metrics and key figures you can display. With these values, you are able to find out whether a keyword or the optimisation of a keyword is worthwhile for you and how the competition is positioned.

You have also seen how to find alternative keywords and keyword phrases that could also be of interest to you.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the online tool can be a good guide for the SEO of your website, but the values displayed are not 100% congruent with those of Google or reflect reality.

The KWFinder has proven itself in our agency's day-to-day work. With a little practice, it will also be a valuable aid for you in the daily practice of search engine optimisation.

KWFinder has a user-friendly structure, is easy to use and delivers quick results.
