Website marketing is more than just putting a website online and waiting for it to be found by potential customers, interested parties or readers.

If someone tells you something else, they are lying to you. Or they just want to sell you a website.

You'll get better results if you follow the website marketing tips I give you in this article.

Tried and tested, effective strategies that we have used to help many of our customers make their website and their company known and successful on the Internet.

here's an example:

Use these website marketing strategies to get your site found online - and turn prospects into new customers.

Just like many others have done before you (hopefully not your competitors).

But you need to realise one thing:

Anyone who has ever tried to increase their online visibility, optimise their website and gain more customers as a result will confirm this: It's not always easy.

You need the necessary know-how (which I will give you in this article) and you need patience and perseverance in some areas.

However, if you have these prerequisites, nothing will stand in the way of your success in website marketing. In the medium to long term, you will have massive streams of visitors to your site that you can turn into paying customers.

And quite honestly. That's what it's all about.

Let's take a closer look.

Definition - what is website marketing?

Website marketing is the ongoing process of building and operating a website according to all the rules and possibilities of online marketing.

It is a collection of measures on and for your website to achieve your business goals.

In simple terms, your website and everything associated with it is optimised to make you money (or whatever your business goal is).

What are the goals of website marketing?

The aim of website marketing is to increase the conversion rate.

It's about turning website visitors from prospective customers into paying customers, loyal fans of your brand, newsletter subscribers, etc. by presenting your company and your products and services in a customer-centred way.

The aim of website marketing is therefore to optimise your website as an important marketing tool to support and ultimately achieve your business goals.

Are you ready for 5 effective website marketing tips?

Then let's get started.

Here are 5 effective tips and strategies that will perfect your website marketing and boost your business.

How to optimise your website

1. Increase dwell time and conversion with a user-friendly design

The design of a website is not primarily about having an elaborate layout.

You don't have to impress anyone, forget it.

Just take a look at the most successful website in the world - the Google homepage.

The Google homepage has everything the user needs, no more and no less.

It's about interesting, captivating and seducing the visitor, making it easy for them to consume the page.

Think about this:

"What does the visitor want to find on my website"?

And then make it as easy as possible for them.

How?

Here are a few points:

  • Content "above the fold" (make sure that your website visitor can find what they are looking for immediately without scrolling)
  • Readability
    • Choose a sufficiently large font size (14-16px)
    • Contrast (e.g. black font on a white background)
    • White space (space between paragraphs and other elements)
    • short sentences (no nested sentences)
    • short paragraphs (maximum 2-3 lines)
  • flat navigation structure / low click depth (maximum 3 levels, each subpage must be accessible with a maximum of 3 clicks)

2. Ensure flawless technology

webdesign technikA flawless technical realisation of the website is appreciated by Google and the users.

Don't worry, you don't have to be a website programmer.

With the CMS (Content Management System) commonly used today, you are already on the safe side from a technical point of view.

At least as long as you don't have any major technical problems.

But I'm not assuming that now.

What I mean are things like:

  1. No unreachable pages (404 errors)
  2. No broken links
  3. No missing images
  4. Fast loading speed
  5. Mobile responsive (page must be displayed perfectly on smartphones)
  6. Clean source code
  7. File names and alt attributes for images (keyword or LSI keyword should be included)
  8. Click-strong SERP snippet (title & meta description)
  9. SSL certificate is available
  10. Contact and registration forms are tested and working

If you have problems with the website technology or design, get in touch with a professional web designer.

Don't tinker around yourself if you don't really know what you're doing, you'll only make things worse - and more expensive.

Website marketing is called website marketing for a reason. It's your website that all other online marketing activities lead to.

Be it SEO (search engine optimisation), SEA (search engine advertising), web design, content marketing, social media marketing, etc. - all of this only makes sense if your website is perfect.

It is important to understand that your website is the centre of all your online marketing activities. It is therefore essential that everything on it fits.

The first step is therefore to get your online presence in order.

If you're creating a new website, follow all the tips and suggestions I've given you.

If you have an existing site, then subject it to a thorough review.

Carry out a website analysis.

The first step in your website marketing strategy is to review your existing website. This will help you recognise what you are already doing well and where there is room for improvement.

Firstly, pay attention to the technical aspects.

  1. Are all pages accessible?
  2. Do all links work?
  3. Are all images available?
  4. Does your site load quickly?
  5. Does your site display perfectly on smartphones?
  6. Is the source code clean and minimised?
  7. Do all images have appropriate file names and alt attributes?
  8. Is your SERP snippet eye-catching and does it encourage people to click?
  9. Is an SSL certificate available?
  10. Do contact and registration forms work properly?

The next step is to analyse user-friendliness.

  1. Can your website visitor find what they are looking for? Is it easy to find or do they have to search for it first? Check your navigation structure and optimise it so that each subpage can be reached with a maximum of 3 clicks.
  2. Is your website also displayed correctly and in full on mobile devices (smartphones)? Google's Mobile First Update considers this to be particularly important. Use a responsive design and optimise the content for smartphones.
  3. Is your content easy to read? Are the font size, contrast and colours correct? Ensure easy readability - especially for mobile devices.
  4. Do you write in short, understandable sentences? The readability index is not a confirmed ranking factor. However, by making your texts easy to understand, you increase the length of stay and reduce the bounce rate. And these are very clear, positive signals to Google. Optimise your texts for readability and comprehensibility.
  5. Is your content structured in such a way that your readers feel comfortable on your website?

Once you have completed this analysis and rectified any shortcomings, it's time for the next tip.

A tip with the rating: ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT!

3. Deliver the best content EVER

content is king

Once you have analysed and optimised your web design and the technology of your website, you need to take care of your content.

You should pay attention to the following criteria:

  • Does your content support your business objective?
  • Does it contain enough information about your offer?
  • Is your content what your target group(buyer persona) expects?
  • Does the visitor immediately recognise what your site is about?
  • Is your content designed in such a way that the interested party stays on your website?
  • Are your texts structured according to the AIDA model?
    • Headings to attract attention
    • Descriptions, lists, instructions that arouse interest
    • Are the benefits (benefits and added value) emphasised well enough to increase the desire for your offer?
    • Does the reader know what to do next (CTA, call to action)?
  • Are images and other media included (break up the structure and support the written text)?
  • Are there enough headings (at least every 200-300 words) to guide the reader?
  • Is the text written in the language and tone of your readers?

And most importantly:

Does the content of your website focus on the challenges and problems of your target audience - and do you offer solutions, benefits and added value for them?

Can you answer all these questions with YES?

Good.

If not, optimise every single point. It really depends on every single one of them.

If you leave even one out, you jeopardise the success of your website marketing.

Here's a video from MOZ explaining why good, unique content is no longer enough. And how to write content that's 10x better than all the others.

All clear so far?

Then let's move on to the next important criterion.

SEM (search engine marketing) + social media marketing

4. Ensure sufficient traffic

website marketing trafficThe website is the engine of your online business. Traffic is the fuel.

The best website is useless if nobody sees it.

So the next step is to make sure you get traffic / website visitors.

There are 3 basic ways to do this:

  1. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)
  2. SEA (Search Engine Advertising)
  3. Social media marketing

SEO / search engine optimisation

By optimising your website for SEO, you ensure that it is found in the organic search results of search engines.

You can read all about search engine optimisation in our detailed article"What is SEO?".

SEA / search engine advertising

When I talk about SEA, I am primarily referring to Google AdWords.

Google makes its advertising network available to you. You can run campaigns and adverts that are displayed on the search results pages (SERPs) or in the Google Display Network.

You can find out more about this in the article"Optimising Google AdWords".

Social media marketing

The third way to "promote" your website is through the numerous social media channels.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google+ and Xing are just a few examples.

Social media marketing is mainly about strategically distributing your content where your target group is.

This approach is called "content seeding".

If you distribute your content on the right social media, your target group will become aware of it and visit your website.

That's the short formula.

Communication, contact and dialogue

5. Talk to your users

website marketing kommunikationWe are happy to answer every comment.

Communication is everything.

Or.

"Talking brings people together", as we say in Austria.

And this is how it works:

Additionally:

  • Be active on social media
  • Comment on other blogs, forums and social media portals

By maintaining communication with your customers, prospects and website visitors, you will build a loyal community that will buy from you, sign up to your newsletter list or recommend you to others.

Like this.

You now know my 5 tips for perfecting your website marketing.

Let me summarise them for you once again.

  1. Ensure a user-friendly web design.
  2. Make sure your website's technology is flawless
  3. Provide helpful and first-class content for your readers
  4. Ensure sufficient traffic to your site
  5. Communicate with your visitors

Now it's up to you to put these tips into practice.
