How to submit WordPress to Google - instructions

Once your new WordPress website is ready, you are eagerly waiting for it to appear in Google. You can speed up this process. You can get Google to speed up the indexing of your new website. Then it only takes a few hours for Google to list your site.

I will now show you what we do as an SEO agency when we put a website online.

Step 1: Indexing

As soon as the website is ready, there is an important setting in WordPress. Go to Settings / Reading:

Here it is important that the item "Prevent search engines from indexing this website" is not selected. If it is, then deactivate it here.

Step 2: Activate sitemap in Yoast SEO

In the next step, install the Yoast SEO plugin. Once you have activated the plugin, your WordPress website will have a sitemap. A sitemap is a list of all your WordPress pages. Similar to a table of contents.

Google loves sitemaps because it then knows at a glance which pages your WordPress has.

If you now enter www.deinedomäne.com/sitemap_index.xml in your browser, you should see a list. (www.deinedomäne.com please enter your domain).

Step 3: Set up Google Search Console

Now we create an account in the Google Search Console. You can do this under this link: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=de

(You need a Google account for this. If you don't have one yet, you can create one for free)

Once you have registered, you can set up a property (your website). It's very easy, the wizard will help you. You can find instructions here.

If your account is active, you can submit the sitemap you created in step 2 under Crawling / Sitemaps.

Once you have completed all these steps, your website will be findable in Google after a few hours, or one day at most.

Here's how you can check whether your WordPress website can be found in Google

1. Go to the Google search engine
2. Enter the following search:
"Site:www.ithelps.at"
(Replace www.ithelps.at with your domain)

If you find a result, Google has registered your website
