Can't you carry out the ranking check in Google itself?

You may be wondering why you should use online tools for the check. It's enough to simply enter the keyword in Google and search the search results for your page.

YES.

Yes, you can simply enter the keyword into Google and you will get the search results for that keyword.

But, does this type of ranking check provide reliable results that are suitable for search engine optimisation (SEO)?

Not necessarily.

Google is a data collector. Among other things, it collects data about your surfing habits and your search history. At least if you are logged into your Google account.

What does this mean?

If you register for free and opt for the premium plan, you can also select the device (desktop or mobile) and refine the analysis for your target region by localising the city.

KEYWORDTOOLS.org

The tool from KEYWORDTOOLS.org is a lightweight among the ranking checkers. All you have to do is enter the keyword and the URL and click on the "Search" button. A country selection is not possible, only .de is checked.

After clicking on the button, you will be given the opportunity to register for free while the analysis is running 😉.

The result is then presented.

Nice to see that we are in 1st place in Google.de 😊

If you need nothing more than to check and monitor your ranking in .de, the tool is a quick, lean solution that does exactly what you want.

Let's move on to the next research tool

Ranking Spy

If the last tool was a lightweight, this one is a heavyweight. With Ranking-Spy you can perform a ranking check of the current search engine positions for up to 10 search terms on up to 3 search engines with just one test run.

The ranking checker from Sitechecker is a little different to the tools presented so far. It doesn't allow you to check the ranking of individual keywords, but the free version shows you the first/best keywords with which your website ranks. For more results, you need to sign up for a "Free Trial", which will show you 100 keywords.

The tool is not suitable for checking individual keywords, but if you want to check what the best keywords of your entire website/domain are, Sitechecker's Domain Ranking Check is just the thing for you.

Why you should regularly check and monitor your rankings

To benefit from checking your rankings, you should carry out and monitor the ranking check regularly. All you need is an Excel sheet with the following columns.

1. Keyword
2. Search engine
3. Date of the query
4. Position (ranking)

Once a month, you can now query the status of your search terms and enter them in the list. This allows you to see the results of your SEO activities.

If you notice that your rankings in the search results are deteriorating or are unsatisfactory, you can optimise the content and/or technology of your website. For example, you can revise your SEO texts, SEO-optimise your images or improve the loading speed of your website.

Google ranking check with professional tools
